MOB calls out Baylor's sexual assault scandal, Rice apologizes amid national attention

The halftime show at the Rice University vs. Baylor University football game on Friday attracted national attention over the weekend after Rice’s Marching Owl Band referenced Baylor’s recent sexual assault scandal in their performance. Many national news and sports media including ESPN, NBC Sports, Fox Sports and the Washington Post published articles regarding the show and a subsequent apology to Baylor fans released by Rice’s administration on Saturday.









Newly created SA associate vice president position filled

James Carter, a Brown College junior, was confirmed as Student Association Associate Vice President at the April 13 meeting of the SA Senate. As associate vice president, a position which was newly created this month by a Senate bill, Carter will assist SA President Griffin Thomas on diversity-related projects.Thomas, a Lovett College junior, said Carter will work on Senate, student body and administration diversity.








New EVP election to fill vacancy

A special election will be held for Student Association external vice president by the end of the month, pending SA Senate approval, due to elected candidate Justin Onwenu’s decision to step down before changeover for personal reasons.According to Director of Elections Sai Chilakapati, Senate will vote on the the timeline for a special election on March 14, then finalize the ballot a week later, after which campaigning will begin.



Thomas, Onwenu win SA election

Griffin Thomas will assume the position of Student Association president after winning a close election against Joan Liu, while Justin Onwenu emerged as the clear winner in a three-way race for SA external vice president.Thomas, a junior finishing his term as Lovett College president, won 53 percent of the 1,532 votes cast in the presidential race, which had a 40 percent higher turnout than last year.
