Kuster signs WNBA contract

Jessica Kuster, the leading rebounder and scorer in Rice University women’s basketball history, signed a contract with the WNBA’s San Antonio Stars on Monday, April 21. Despite not being drafted in the three rounds of the WNBA Draft, Kuster was able to sign a contract with her hometown team.

Baseball sweeps conference foe UAB

The Rice University baseball team competed this past weekend in a three-game series against the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Upon entering Friday’s game, Rice held a two-game Conference USA lead over UAB but would widen that gap after winning all three games.

Men’s tennis prepares for C-USA Tournament

This past weekend, Rice University faced fellow Texan teams Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University. After losing in a 7-0 match against TCU on Saturday, the Owls managed to beat rival SMU 4-2 and improved their record to 9-12.

Baseball sweeps Tulane, pushing streak to four

The Rice University men’s baseball team traveled to New Orleans, La. this past weekend to face Tulane University in a three-game Conference USA series. The Owls entered the series coming off a road win against in-state rival No. 7 University of Texas, Austin and carried their momentum into the weekend.

Women’s tennis continues to roll

Rice University women’s tennis, ranked No. 21, continued their conference play Sunday, garnering a 6-1 victory against University of Texas, San Antonio to improve their overall record to 14-6 and their conference record to 2-0.

Owls lose to Middle Tennessee State on the road

The Rice University baseball team faced Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee State University this past weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn. For the first time this season, the Owls lost a three-game series, dropping two of three games. Thirty games into the season, the Rice Owls are 21-9 while posting a 9-3 conference record.

Men's Basketball hires VCU's Mike Rhoades

The Rice University men’s basketball team hired former Virginia Commonwealth University assistant Mike Rhoades as its head coach, director of athletics Joe Karlgaard announced on Wednesday, March 26. The hiring comes in the wake of the resignation of former head coach Ben Braun, who relinquished his duties on March 13.

Clark visits NCAA championship

Last weekend, swimmer Casey Clark represented Rice University in three events at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. Clark, a Baker College junior, competed in the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle events.
