Rahul Rekhi wins a 2013 Marshall scholarship

Sid Richardson College senior Rahul Rekhi is one of 34 students selected nationwide to receive a 2013 Marshall scholarship. The Marshall scholarships fund up to 40 American students annually to study at the graduate level at any institution in the United Kingdom in the field of study of their choice, according to the Marshall scholarships website.

Friedman dialogues on politics

Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman spoke at Rice on Nov. 12 about the recent presidential election; the elimination of the high-wage, middle-skilled job due to globalization and the information technology revolution; and topics concerning foreign policy and international relations.

ESTHER to archive syllabi

Course syllabi can now be posted within ESTHER and archived over the years, according to Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Paula Sanders. The impetus for this initiative came from students, Sanders said.

Business model changes in store for Pub

Its debt having doubled in the past year, the management of Willy's Pub is currently focusing efforts on creating a sustainable model of business, according to Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Student Center and Campus-wide Programs Boyd Beckwith.

New center aims to improve teaching methods at Rice

Dean of Undergraduates John Hutchinson announced the creation of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the appointment of its faculty director, professor of computation and applied mathematics Steven Cox, at the Student Association meeting on Sept. 24. Cox said the CTE fellows have been selected and initial discussions have begun, but no plans have been finalized yet.
