News In Brief: Digital Media Commons relocating
The Digital Media Commons will be relocating from Herring Hall Room 129 to Fondren Library basement this summer, and the Center for Teaching Excellence and Program for Writing and Communications will be occupying the Herring space, according to Jane Zhao, Director of the DMC.
Currently, the DMC, CTE and PWC are sharing the Herring 129 space for the second semester said Nadalia Liu, Supervisor of the DMC.
"For [the] academic year, DMC will share the Herring 129 space with both CTE and PWC, with the DMC on the first floor, [and the] CTE and PWC on the second floor," Zhao said. "The plan is to move the DMC to Fondren before fall 2014."
Zhao said the previous space could comfortably hold 12-15 people to meet, but they are looking to move to Fondren to integrate themselves into the community.
CTE Director Josh Eyler said that currently, CTE is housed in Keck Hall Room 203 and will move within the year into the new space in Herring.

This moment may be unprecedented — Rice falling short is not
In many ways, the current landscape of American higher education is unprecedented. Sweeping cuts to federal research funding, overt government efforts to control academic departments and censor campus protests and arbitrary arrests and visa revocations have rightly been criticized as ushering in the latest iteration of fascism.
