Schedule for Willy Week
Monday
Willy Week starts out with Willy's Picnic and a concert in the Central Quad from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Students should pick up a ticket for food from the serveries, which will be closed for Monday dinner. The tickets are free for students with a meal plan, and $5 for others. Lovett College sophomore Tristan Clement will DJ while the food is served, and then The Sour Notes and The Erin James Band will perform. The concert will be free and Rice Program Council will be giving out free water bottles. Tuesday
Beer Debates will be held starting at 8 p.m. in Willy's Pub. Associate Professor of English Jose Aranda, Professor of Earth Science and Chemistry Andreas Luttge, and Director of Bands Chuck Throckmorton will answer a series of questions posed by Jones College sophomore Michael Paras. Send an e-mail to Sara Millimet, sam3 [at] rice.edu, beforehand with questions the professors can debate or take your chances and try to ask a question yourself at the event.
Wednesday
Beer Bike Trivia will be held starting at 11 p.m. in Willy's Pub. This will be similar to most Pub Trivia nights, but with four Willy Week shirts to be given away by Rice Program Council.
Thursday
The 80th anniversary celebration of Willy's statue, with free cake, will be held in the Academic Quad from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., thanks to the President's Office and the Centennial Celebration. There will also be video showings at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Kyle Morrow room in Fondren Library, and at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the BioScience Research Collaborative. International Beer Night is from 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. at Willy's Pub, with beers from around the world and pizza subsidized by the Annual Fund.
Friday
Those not interested in sticking around on campus can go to see Houston Ballet's "American at Heart." Ask your college RPC representative to get a ticket, or go to the Information Desk at the student center on Monday to try to get any extras. Otherwise, fill up as many water balloons as you can.
Saturday
Start your day bright and early so you can defend your college's honor during the Beer Bike Parade at 10:30 a.m. Students will show off their hard work from the weeks past by throwing as many water balloons at each other as possible. This will be followed by Beer Bike itself, which this year features four different races: the alumni race at 12:40 p.m.; the Duncan/McMurtry exhibiition race at 1:25; the women's race at 2:10; the men's race at 3. There will also be pizzas and tacos.
All Week
Willy Week shirts will be available for $5, and Beer Bike belt buckles will be available for $7, or you can buy both for $10.
Housing and Dining will charge colleges for use of custodial staff and contractors due to damages caused by events such as jacks and private parties.
Voice of Willy Week Michael Paras will serve as master of ceremonies for official RPC events.

Founder’s Court goes alt-rock as bôa kicks off U.S. tour at Rice
Founder’s Court morphed into a festival ground Friday night as British alt-rock band bôa launched the U.S. leg of their “Whiplash” tour. The group headlined the third annual Moody X-Fest before what organizers estimate was “a little bit over 2,000 students” — the largest turnout in the event’s three-year history.
Rice launches alternative funding program amid federal research cuts
Rice is launching the Bridge Funding Program for faculty whose federal funding for research projects has been reduced or removed. The program was announced via the Provost’s newsletter April 24.
This moment may be unprecedented — Rice falling short is not
In many ways, the current landscape of American higher education is unprecedented. Sweeping cuts to federal research funding, overt government efforts to control academic departments and censor campus protests and arbitrary arrests and visa revocations have rightly been criticized as ushering in the latest iteration of fascism.
