Wednesday's Sports Update: Men's basketball holds on to victory over UCF
Katy Mayde Creek product/Rice senior Rodney Foster led Rice with 22 points ... he matched a career high with 6 three-pointers and was 7-for-14 from the field ... he also had seven assists and two steals.UCF's Jermaine Taylor scored a career-high 45 points ... he had 26 of the Knights' 30
second-half points.
Rice had a 20-point lead with 6:57 to play in the game (65-55 on a Trey Stanton three-pointer).
UCF later scored 16 unanswered points to cut Rice's lead to 67-66 with 1:20 to play. Rice turned the ball over on four straight possessions and a 10-point, 67-57 Rice lead went to one point.
UCF had a chance to take the lead after a missed Foster three-pointer but Connor Frizzelle took a pass out of Taylor's hands with 40 seconds to play. After a Rice
timeout, Foster made a layup with 13 seconds to play to give the Owls a 69-66 lead.
Rice had lost its last 17 Conference USA road games, including its first six this season, prior to the UCF win.
Rice plays host to crosstown Rival Houston Saturday at 3 p.m.

In many ways, the current landscape of American higher education is unprecedented. Sweeping cuts to federal research funding, overt government efforts to control academic departments and censor campus protests and arbitrary arrests and visa revocations have rightly been criticized as ushering in the latest iteration of fascism.
