The following were noted at the most recent meeting of the Student Association Feb. 8.SA President Patrick McAnaney reported that President David Leebron has formed a Committee on Investor Responsibility. This committee will advise the Rice Management Team to promote responsible and ethical actions.
Director of Elections Ronnie Ren announced that spring SA elections will begin 8 a.m. Tuesday. The presidential debate will be held Monday at 9 p.m. during the SA meeting after the official election ballot is approved by the senate.
Treasurer Amber Wu presented the Blanket Tax Committee's report on the three blanket-tax proposals by KTRU, Rice Program Council and Rice Endowment for Sustainable Energy Technology. KTRU requested a $2-per-student increase, but the committee wanted to compromise down to $0.60. Both RPC's request for $5 and Rice Endowment for Sustainable Energy Technology'srequest for $9 were approved by the committee.
The senate voted to place RPC's and RESET's blanket tax requests on the election ballot. KTRU's request failed to make the election ballot.
The senate voted to amend the SA Constitution so there is only one SA president per year and created the oversight clause in the Blanket Tax Amendment.
McAnaney, a Brown College senior, announced that next week's SA meeting will begin at 8:45 p.m Monday in the Farnsworth Pavilion. It will be followed by the presidential debate.
