The college crest will go on the INSIDE.

This is really indicative of something I noticed happening when I was at Rice: most students don't actually care about the traditions and Beer Bike as an event anymore. It's just an excuse to get ridiculously drunk all day (or in some cases all week). Some of it is a problem with the administration not supporting things like expanding the track (which would make it easier for less experienced riders; the current track is so crowded during the race that it is dangerous for the less experienced). It's really sad, because this might be a step towards ending the event. If the race slips away over the years, then it's just a big drunken party (with a water balloon fight, maybe), and it will really lose what makes it one of the most unique and best parts of the Rice experience.Jones 2010

Bottom line, sexual assault is a legal matter, not a university one. Charges should be filed and addressed by the legal system. What is concerning is that so many of these articles are only concerned about the rights of the accuser while not the rights of the accused who may be unfairly accused. No one seems concerned about the severe emotional trauma for the accused that comes with a false accusation.

As a prospective Rice parent I have read this article and honestly I found it confusing. Today the criminal system takes sexual and physical abuse very seriously, whether the accuser is a male or female, and what does not make sense is why criminal charges were never filed as this alleged conduct went on for over a year, from Sept 2010 to Sept 2011.
