Gunmen rob student, run off with cash and car keys

A Rice student was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by two African-American men near Entrance 23, next to the Martel College parking lot, at 9 p.m. on May 6. The suspects allegedly took the student's cash and car keys before running away, and the student was unharmed, according to Rice University Police Department's Interim Police Captain Clemente Rodriguez.

Staff member dies on medical leave

Sharon Bush, the associate director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, died on April 29 while on medical leave from the university, according to Associate Provost of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Roland Smith.

Online Only: Noise complaints at Beer Bike

Rice University Police Department officers reported to several north colleges on the morning of Saturday, March 31, in response to noise complaint calls from residents in the nearby neighborhood. RUPD Captain Clemente Rodriguez said officers spoke to college leadership at Duncan College, Martel College and Jones College and asked them to turn the music down.

Dean's Cup Proposed

Hanszen College Sports Representative Christoph Meyer introduced a proposal for the Dean's Cup at the Student Association meeting on Monday, April 2. According to Meyer, a senior, the new distinction would serve as a complement to the President's Cup. However, while all residential colleges and the Graduate Student Association compete in intramural sports for the President's Cup, the Dean's Cup would only include undergraduates.
