Home tournament gives soccer chance to rebound from slow start

It has been a somewhat slow start for the Rice Owls soccer team over the first three weeks of the 2018 season. Last year, the Owls were once ranked No. 24 in the nation and earned a spot in the 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship tournament. This year, however, the Owls have lost three of their first four games, including a 5-1 loss to the University of Alabama last Sunday. 







Tennis teams begin 2018 spring seasons

Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams opened up their 2018 season with competitions over the weekend. The men’s team was able to defeat Prairie View A&M University with a score of 6-1, but were unable to beat the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, losing 4-3. The women’s team competed at the Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational, finishing with a 9-8 record in singles and a 6-3 in doubles.


Swimming resumes winning ways as new year begins

The Rice Owls swimming team kicked off 2018 with a splash at the Arizona Wildcats Quad Meet and Grand Canyon University Quad Meet this past weekend. At the University of Arizona’s meet, the Owls defeated New Mexico State University and GCU but lost to No. 12 Arizona by 30 points. Senior Alicia Caldwell won first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.96, while senior Kaitlyn Swinney won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:17.86.






​Owls swim to second place in Open Water Championships

The Rice women’s swim team raced to second place this weekend in the CSCAA Open Water Championship five-kilometer race held at the University of Kansas. Only Kansas finished ahead of Rice, winning by just four points. The Owls beat out 10 other teams in the event, including the University of Missouri and Southern Illinois University.
