Senate approves resolution supporting DACA students

The Student Association Senate passed Resolution #4, expressing support of the federal BRIDGE Act, in a 22-1-2 vote Monday night, after more than 30 minutes of debate in addition to discussions at two prior SA meetings. Demonstrators from a student group attended the meeting and voiced their support by holding signs bearing slogans in favor of the BRIDGE Act as their representatives voted.




Phishing attacks on Rice community increasingly sophisticated, IT office warns

Schemes to steal usernames and passwords are another part of the Rice University experience. Students, faculty and staff alike are falling victim to attacks that direct Rice email users to sites that almost exactly resemble legitimate, Rice-sponsored sites. Phishing scams are now more frequent and more technologically advanced, prompting the Office of Information Technology recently to direct its IT representatives to warn their residential colleges about this increasing sophistication.


‘All my friends hook up but me’ a myth, SOCI study finds

Rice students are lonely and looking for love. A group researching sex and romantic relationships at Rice for Research Methods (SOCI 381) expected many students to have no hookup experience but didn’t realize the extent to which they were correct. They were also surprised to find that the hookup culture at Rice is largely mythical: An overwhelming majority of study participants thought they were hooking up less than their peers, and most want to be in a long-term, committed relationship.
