Master plan presented at SA meeting

While many of the current members of the Rice community may not be around to see it, University Architect David Rodd is working on a master plan for campus that outlines the potential growth of the university over the next 50 years. Rodd presented his Master Planning Study at Monday's Student Association meeting. (5) comments

New penalty structure set

Honor Council to streamline process

As if there were not already enough of a disincentive to cheat, the Honor Council has recently made several changes to its consensus penalty structure for the 2009- 10 academic year to strengthen and streamline its focus. Each fall, the Honor Council meets to adopt a standardized penalty structure, which dictates both the type and severity of penalties the council may allow for Honor Code violations. (0) comments

When it comes to design awards, the Raymond and Susan Brochstein Pavilion has received another jewel to add to its crown. The pavilion's most recent award, the Ideas2 Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction, was presented Oct. 28 to the steel designers of the structure, alumni Larry Whaley and Wally Ford (Hanszen '75). After three years of afternoons waiting idly for the on-campus shuttles, a trio of students has decided that their time will be wasted no more. Three electrical engineering students have taken it upon themselves to create a shuttle-tracking system as their senior design project. (0) comments

Graduate students may go to Valhalla instead of Willy's Pub and attend Graduate Student Association meetings instead of Student Association meetings, but they have decided to continue to be judged by the same Honor Council as undergraduates. On Oct. 7, the Faculty Senate proposed that the GSA establish a separate Honor Council for graduate students. (0) comments

RTV5 set to feature new health show

Graduate student to use entertainment to promote health education

Sex on television is no longer as taboo as it once was, so it may come as little shock that RTV5 is combining business with pleasure by creating a new show that mixes entertainment with a healthy dose of sexual education. The main objective of the show, "Strapped for Rice," will be to highlight different health issues as well as provide artistic performances in what religious studies graduate student Aundrea Matthews, the creator of the show, calls "edutainment. The Baker College master search began two weeks ago with the selection of its search committee co-chairs, Baker senior Bradley Houston said. Houston said Baker President Kathy Kellert asked he and Baker sophomore Peter Borden to be co-chairs. They formed the search committee the following week from a pool of 18 applicants. (1) comment

Following Provost Eugene Levy's announcement to step down from his post in September, a provost search committee has been formed to find a suitable alternative. The committee is composed of 16 members: 12 faculty, one member of the Board of Trustees, one staff member, one graduate student and one undergraduate representative. (1) comment

Shuttle to begin stopping at BRC Due to the opening of the BioScience Research Collaborative earlier this semester, the Texas Medical Center shuttle has added two new stops to its route, both with easy access to the BRC located at University and Travis. (0) comments
